What is Civil War & Emancipation Day?

For the 12th annual Civil War & Emancipation Day (CWED), organizations across the city of Richmond, VA are engaging with the theme of resiliency. During the first week of April, families and history enthusiasts alike can participate in programs and activities that ask what we can learn from the resilience of the people of the Civil War era.
